Following Shane Warne's death at the age of 52, Ed Sheeran described him as a "wonderful buddy" with the "kindest heart."
After being found comatose in his Thailand villa after having a suspected heart attack, the record-breaking Australian cricketer could not be revived.
Many of Warne's famous pals have paid tribute to him since then, recalling fond recollections and describing him as a "genuine cricket icon."
Sheeran claimed he spoke with Warne over the phone this week to commemorate the passing of music entrepreneur Michael Gudinski, who died in March of last year, and that the two of them raised a glass in his honour.
"The world continues stealing incredible people away," the singer-songwriter said alongside a photo of Warne and Gudinski together on Instagram.
"On Michael's death anniversary this week, I told Shane that we were both lifting a glass of 707 in his honour, and now this news comes out."
"Shane had the warmest heart and always went out of his way to make people feel special. He is a true gentleman.
"He sacrificed so many hours and years of his life to make people happy, and he was such a wonderful friend to me." I'm going to miss you a lot, mate. "I'm completely devastated."
